Hibernian vs Aston Villa: Europa Conference League Clash

Celtic 1-0 Hibernian: Celtic reach Premier Sports Cup semi-finals with narrow victory

Less than a fortnight after claiming a 5-1 victory over Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic aim to continue their winning streak when they head to Easter Road in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals on Thursday.

Hibernian's six-match unbeaten run came to an end against their city rivals, Hibernian will be looking to bounce back quickly and progress to the last four of this competition.

Since beating Hibs 6-1 at Easter Road in the Scottish Premiership last weekend, Celtic were held to a 1-1 by Dundee United at Tannadice Park, with that match also finishing with 10 men after Carl Starfelt was sent off.

Ange Postecoglou's side are looking to build on a 2-0 Premier Sports Cup triumph over Ross County at Celtic Park on 20th July, and currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership table after picking up four points from their opening two games.

Victory at Easter Road would set Celtic up nicely for the upcoming Europa League play-off round first leg against AZ Alkmaar next week, but face a Hibernian side aiming to reach the semi-finals of this competition for the second time in three seasons.

Hibernian, meanwhile, suffered a 5-1 defeat to Celtic in their last match, though manager Lee Johnson will be hoping to see a response from his players in this cup clash.

A 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on 24th July has moved Hibernian up to fourth in the Scottish Premiership table, with the Easter Road outfit collecting four points from their opening two games.

The Edinburgh club, who have only lost once at Easter Road in their last nine matches in all competitions, will now hope to make it to the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup for the second time in three seasons, having lost 3-0 to Celtic in the 2020-21 final.
