Sydney, Australia – The city of Sydney was left reeling on Monday night after a 15-year-old with a knife attacked Assyrian Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel during a church service at Christ the Good Shepherd in Wakeley.
The attack is the second stabbing incident in Sydney in just one week.
A video posted on social media shows the attacker approaching Bishop Emmanuel during the service. The attacker was quickly apprehended by church security and police were called to the scene.
Bishop Emmanuel was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Riot police were called in to disperse angry locals who had gathered outside the church.
The 15-year-old attacker has been arrested and is being questioned by police.
