Early Life and Background

Birth and Ancestry

Kim Jong-un was born on 8 January 1982, although some sources claim 1983 or 1984. His exact birthplace is unknown. He is the son of Kim Jong-il, former Supreme Leader of North Korea, and Ko Yong-hui, a dancer. Kim Jong-un is the grandson of Kim Il-sung, the founder of North Korea.

Education and Early Career

Kim Jong-un received his education in Switzerland, where he attended the Liebefeld Steinhölzli School under the pseudonym "Pak Un." Little is known about his early career, but it is believed that he returned to North Korea in the late 2000s.

Rise to Power

Kim Jong-il's Illness and Succession

In 2008, Kim Jong-il suffered a stroke, raising concerns about his health and the succession of power in North Korea. Kim Jong-un was gradually groomed for leadership, and in 2010, he was appointed to high-ranking positions within the military and the Workers' Party of Korea.

Death of Kim Jong-il and Assumption of Power

When Kim Jong-il died in December 2011, Kim Jong-un succeeded his father as Supreme Leader of North Korea. He also took on the mantle of head of the Workers' Party of Korea and the Korean People's Army.
